Protect Children at IPPPRI25: Preventing Online Violence Against Children

NEWS

Last week, our Executive Director Nina Vaaranen-Valkonen, Deputy Director and Legal Specialist Anna Ovaska, Head of Research Tegan Insoll, Senior Specialist Katariina Leivo, and Specialist and Human Rights Lawyer Eva Díaz Bethencourt joined the IPPPRI25 conference!

Members of the Protect Children Team traveled to London for the IPPPRI25 conference, which brings together the leading stakeholders in the field to develop and share information for the prevention of technology-facilitated crimes of sexual violence against children.

On Day 1, Eva Díaz Bethencourt and Nina Vaaranen-Valkonen presented the new Our Voice report, amplifying the voices and wisdom of 643 survivors of childhood sexual violence in the UK. This report was produced in collaboration with Professor Sam Lundrigan and Lea Kamitz from the International Policing and Public Protection Research Institute.

Later that day, Nina Vaaranen-Valkonen also presented her case study on online violent groups in collaboration with Olly Clark of the National Police Chiefs Council. This important work explores the scale and rapid rise of abuse by the groups, as well as offender and victim profiles and investigative challenges.

On Day 3, Nina Vaaranen-Valkonen and Senior Specialist Katariina Leivo announced that, in partnership with Embrace, we are launching the You Are Enough™️ peer support groups for parents whose children have fallen victim to sexual violence in the UK!

We were honoured to participate in IPPPRI25 Annual Conference, have an opportunity to discuss, invent, and evaluate approaches to tackling online crimes of sexual violence against children, and drive positive change together with the world's leading specialists in child protection. We look forward to attending next year!
