Protect Children launches "SHAME - European Stories" Exhibition in Helsinki 27 May

Updated: May 31, 2023

NEWS

The SHAME - European Stories exhibition breaks the silence on sexual violence against children while amplifying the voices of survivors. The exhibition will be on display in Helsinki from 27 May to 11 June.

From Italy to Sweden – from Portugal to Finland: award-winning journalist Simone Padovani has interviewed and photographed nearly 100 survivors of childhood sexual violence across Europe as part of the European Justice Initiative. The scale of the phenomenon of sexual violence against children has never before been captured this way. The exhibition amplifies the voices of survivors and extensively documents the injustices they have experienced.

The travelling exhibition “SHAME – European Stories” debuted last year at the Venice Biennale and was on display in October 2022 at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. As leaders of the Nordic Hub of the Justice Initiative, Protect Children is now bringing the exhibition to Helsinki. The exhibition will be open to the public for one week, from 27 May to 11 June, in the Mall of Tripla.

“The aim is to break the silence and bring out the truth about the violence and sexual violence against children as well as the heinous violations of the Rights of the Child” emphasizes Nina Vaaranen-Valkonen, Executive Director, Senior Specialist and psychotherapist, Protect Children.
