Tell Me More About Tech

Generating new evidence on how technology ecosystems facilitate online child sexual abuse and influence offender’s behaviours.

Tell Me More About Tech is a research project led by Protect Children that aims to understand how offenders use new and emerging technologies to sexually offend children. The project will support regulators with critical knowledge necessary to address the evolving landscape of online child sexual abuse and exploitation.

Through a comprehensive survey developed with input from relevant stakeholders, the project will collect insights into the role of technology in enabling online crimes of sexual violence against children from active anonymous child sexual abuse offenders. The research will explore how different technology ecosystems facilitate and drive abuse, and how they influence offender’s behaviours, including their encouragement and facilitation of sexual violence against children.

Tell Me More About Tech builds on Protect Children’s groundbreaking ReDirection and 2KNOW projects. The ReDirection project research revealed the increasing ease to access and disseminate CSAM on the surface web via popular social media platforms and messengers. The research conducted in Project 2KNOW unveiled the crucial role of technological advancements and the anonymity of the internet in enabling child sexual abuse offending.

The project is supported by Dr. Juha Nurmi, Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Tampere University and founder of Ahmia.fi. The project is also supported by Resolver, a Kroll Business in translation of the research survey.
