You can make a change!

One day, you may be the safe adult a child turns to after experiencing sexual violence. This is a powerful sign of trust and courage. However, it's normal if this feels overwhelming in the moment. What matters most is that they feel heard, believed, and supported. Your calm presence and willingness to listen without judgment can make a powerful difference.

With the right information, you can take meaningful steps to support a child and help them access appropriate help resources and reporting options. Explore our resources to learn more about how to respond with care and confidence.

Important for caregivers and professionals

Most cases of child sexual abuse go unreported to safe adults. There are many barriers to reporting childhood sexual abuse, such as feelings of guilt and shame, and a lack of age-appropriate information. Many children do not share their experiences, often believing that telling will not help, or fearing that their experiences will not be acknowledged or believed.

Trusted adults who interact with children on a daily basis, such as caregivers, teachers, and playgroup leaders, are essential to ensuring a child’s well-being and safety. This includes not only the physical environments of home, school, and community, but also online environments. As technology evolves and new risks emerge, we need more effective ways to prevent online and offline harm to children.

Supporting your child in their everyday digital life does not require special skills – your presence, care, and active participation can make a real difference! Age-appropriate information for children and support from safe adults can help prevent child sexual abuse.

Join our mission to make every child feel seen, heard, and supported. Explore the #MyFriendToo website to learn practical ways to support children online and offline – and share this website with children and adults in your community!
